Chevrolet VOLT – “A VOLT Above The Rest!”

We here are Bob Maguire Chevrolet are all so excited about receiving a 2011 Chevrolet VOLT in the first quarter of 2011! It has been a long waited and anticipated journey to this amazing electric car - but, it is a journey worth while!

2011 Chevy VOLT

Did you know that the VOLT’s Voltec 240V Home Charging Unit can charge a depleted VOLT battery in only 4 hours?! That is 6 hours faster than the other option (the standard 120V charge cord that plugs into a household outlet). This is all thanks to Chevy’s supplier of the charging stations, SPX Service Solutions. They are able to create stations that cost $490 before installation, $1,475 for installation and unit.

In addition to Chevrolet’s Voltec unit, SPX will sell a variety of home charging stations and manage all aspects of installation for Volt owners, including the home survey, installation, permitting, Department of Energy and utility coordination, and identification of available programs and incentives for reduced charging rates.

2011 Chevrolet Avalanche Review

The 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche is offered in LS, LT and LTZ models, each with a choice of rear-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive. Standard on all models is a 310-horsepower, 5.3-liter V8 engine, hooked up to a responsive 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine has Active Fuel Management, which switches to 4-cylinder operation when possible to help save fuel. Fuel economy ratings of 14 mpg city, 20 mpg highway are quite respectable for a vehicle of this size and capability.

Chevy Avalanche 2011

The Avalanche’s unusual styling aside, the centerpoint of this truck’s unique setup is its folding mid-gate, which allows items from the truck bed to utilize passenger cabin space when needed. As such, the Avalanche can function as both a 6-passenger SUV and as a truck with an 8-foot bed. With the mid-gate open and the back seat folded fully down, the Avalanche can fit a 4-by-8-foot piece of plywood. The bed also has built-in storage compartments with drains, ideal for being filled with ice and used as coolers.

Chevy Avalanche 2011

The Avalanche includes some of the same rugged character and ability as GM’s full-size pickup models, including a very respectable tow rating of 8,100 pounds. Those who do plan to take their Avalanche far off the pavement will want to get the Z71 Off-Road package, which brings color-keyed wheel flares, tubular assist steps, a chrome grille insert and leather bucket seats. Z71 also includes a host of tough hardware, including high-pressure gas-charged shocks, on/off-road tires, recovery hooks, skid plates and an automatic-locking differential. The heavy-duty Trailering Package includes a 2-speed transfer case, which also comes standard on LTZ 4×4 models.

Chevy Avalanche Interior 2011

The 2011 Avalanche drives like most of GM’s other full-size trucks-which is to say it’s more nimble than you might think, with surprisingly good ride comfort and great interior appointments, including generously sized front seats. In base LS trim, the Avalanche comes with a simple set of features that should be just fine for work-minded buyers. On the standard features list are front bucket seats, air conditioning, cruise control, steering-wheel audio controls and a MP3/CD sound system with USB port and XM satellite radio compatibility. Standard Bluetooth hands-free connectivity and rear seat audio controls are both new for 2011.

Chevy Avalanche Dash Board 2011

The LT is more comfort-minded and brings a soft-ride suspension plus remote start, remote keyless entry, dual-zone climate control and Bose audio. The LTZ trim gets lots of appearance extras, plus power-adjustable pedals, a garage-door opener, heated-and-cooled front seats, perforated leather upholstery, a rearview camera system, parking assist, DVD entertainment and a navigation system with XM NavTraffic info. Safety features across the Avalanche range include traction control, front and rear airbags and electronic stability control.

2011 Chevrolet Traverse Review

The 2011 Traverse is available in three trims: the base LS, the mid-range LT and the luxury LTZ. Each is available with either front- or all-wheel drive. All trims are powered by a 3.6L V6 engine with direct fuel injection. All LS and LT engines deliver 281 horsepower and 266 foot-pounds of torque.

2011 Traverse

The LTZ gets a slightly more powerful version of the same engine, which delivers 288 horsepower and 270 foot-pounds of torque at 3400 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission is the only transmission available. The 2011 Traverse comes with variable-effort rack-and-pinion steering and a low center of mass for stable cornering. The 4-wheel independent suspension allows for a compliant ride and a maximum towing capacity of up to 5,200 pounds, comparable to some truck-based mid-size SUVs.

2011 Traverse DashBoard

Safety was given priority in the Traverse’s engineering and feature list. Stabilitrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation technology, is standard, as is anti-lock brakes, panic brake assist and six airbags, including head-curtain side bags that cover all three rows of seating. An extremely roomy interior is one of the Traverse’s strengths. The three rows provide seating for up to seven or eight, depending on whether buyers opt for captain’s chairs or 60/40-split bench seat for the second row. The bench slides fore and aft for easier access to the third row or added seating space. There are plenty of bins and cubbies all around, as well as ten cup holders.

2011 Traverse Interior

The Traverse’s look is quite different between trims, thanks to a wide range of wheel offerings. LS models get 17-inch wheels, the LT upgrades to 18-inch machined aluminum wheels, and LTZ models get flashy, 20-inch machined aluminum wheels as standard. The base LS models are well-appointed and include keyless entry, cruise control, front and rear air conditioning and MP3-compatible CD audio. The 1LT trim adds as standard heated mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with controls, rear parking aid, trip computer, aluminum wheels and power driver seat. The 2LT trim adds climate control, dual zone A/C, premium sound system, electrochromic rearview mirror, backup camera, power liftgate and four bucket seats. The top-line LTZ adds a power passenger seat, heated and cooled seats, passenger lumbar, seat memory, mirror memory, remote engine start, universal garage door opener, wireless cell phone hookup, power folding mirrors and performance tires. Noteworthy options include a DVD entertainment system, dual-panel sunroof, leather upholstery and navigation system.

2011 Chevy Silverado Review

Chevrolet continues to offer two completely different interiors for its Silverado 1500 family of pickups: Work Truck, LS and LT trims get a so-called “pure pickup interior” that includes larger door handles and controls that are designed to be used with gloves on, while the LTZ trim gets the same luxurious, softer, and more carlike interior that’s used in the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban.

2011 Chevy Silverado

The LTZ instrument panel is a bit lower to afford a better outward view, and several special color and trim themes are offered with the LTZ exclusively. LTZ models boast many more exclusive features in addition to the instrument panel; different door panels, a divided center console, heated power leather front seats, and an upgraded Bose sound system are included, while the top crew cab LTZ models get a rear-seat audio system, larger glovebox and rain-sensing wipers.

2011 Chevy Sivlerado

In most Silverado 1500 models, a stadium-style back seat is split 60/40, including a folding center armrest, and can be folded forward easily. The extended-cab versions have enough legroom for occasional use and access is aided by 170-degree back doors. Regular cab, crew cab, and extended cab versions of the Silverado are available, while cargo bed lengths are 5′ 8″ for the short bed, 6′ 6″ for the standard bed, or 8 feet for the long bed.

2011 Chevy Silverado Interior

The maximum payload rating runs as high as 1,909 pounds. Across most of the model line, the Silverado has a very good ride and handles well compared to the full-size trucks of the past, with a well-tuned coil-over-shock front suspension, Hotchkiss-type rear suspension and rack-and-pinion steering. Actually, five different suspension packages are offered, each tuned for particular types of use: Z83 is for a smooth ride; Z85 is oriented for better handling and trailer towing; Z71 yields better off-road capability; Z60 is for top street performance; and NHT is for top towing capacity. Towing numbers range up to 10,700 pounds when configured with the extended cab, 6.0-liter engine and Enhanced Trailering Package.

2011 Chevy Silverado Engine

The 2011 Silverado offers four different engines-a 195-horsepower, 4.3-liter V6, a 302-hp, 4.8-liter V8, a 315-hp, 5.3-liter V8 and a 403-hp, 6.2-liter V8. The V6 comes with a 4-speed automatic, while all others get a 6-speed automatic. Fuel economy ratings are as high was 22 mpg on the highway.

The Silverado Hybrid is a good option for green shoppers who still need pickup capability. The 2-mode hybrid system incorporates a 6.0-liter gasoline V8, electric motor system, variable automatic transmission and nickel-metal hydride battery pack, all of which enable a 6,100-pound tow rating while allowing especially good fuel economy in city driving, with EPA ratings of 21 mpg city, 22 highway. Top options on the Silverado include Bluetooth phone connectivity, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system and a navigation system with XM Nav Traffic, plus a rearview camera system that aids visibility while parking this tall vehicle.

2011 Chevrolet Impala Review

The Impala is a roomy, front-wheel-drive 4-door sedan that comes in LS, LT and LTZ models. LS and LT trims include a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 211 horsepower and is now FlexFuel-capable. LTZ models (optional on LT) get a 224-horse, 3.9-liter V6 that’s also FlexFuel-capable. Either of these engines is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 3.5-liter engine has an EPA-estimated 18 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, which according to Chevrolet, allows a highway driving range of up to 500 miles.
With a rather conventional MacPherson strut-type front suspension and trailing-arm rear suspension, with a stabilizer bar in back, the Impala is tuned to bring a smooth ride yet handle reasonably responsively. The body and suspension systems were designed to include some significant sound-deadening measures, which make the Impala quiet on the highway and over coarse surfaces.
Depending on the trim level, the Impala comes with either a front bench seat or two individual buckets. In back, there’s enough room for three adults across, and the seatbacks fold forward for a full pass-through to the trunk for larger cargo items. There’s a storage tub under the rear cushions. And a sunroof is available. Side and side-curtain airbags are standard on all Impalas, along with GM’s StabiliTrak stability control system and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. There are LATCH child-seat connectors in all three rear seating positions. Even the base LS model includes keyless entry, cruise control, power windows and locks and air conditioning.
LT models get larger machined aluminum wheels, fog lamps, a remote start system, dual-zone climate control and Bluetooth hands-free. At the top of the range, the LTZ comes equipped as a more sophisticated, somewhat sporty sedan, with upgraded wheels and W-rated tires, heated seats, heated mirrors, a universal remote, and Bose audio. All sound systems include an auxiliary input. The available remote-start system in the Impala is claimed to work up to 200 feet away, and will pre-heat or cool the vehicle. Also included in the Impala is the latest Gen 9.0 version of OnStar, with improved voice recognition, along with Direction and Connections services and Turn-by-Turn navigation, which allows you to beam route guidance from a call center into the vehicle.

100 Leading Women In the Automotive Industry

Automotive News announced its top 100 Leading Women in the North American Automotive industry for 2010. The last time this report was done was in 2005, and most of the stakes and the women are entirely different. Nearly half of the women from 2005 had left the Automobile Industry these past five years and 2/3 of this year’s 100 women were not even on the list in 2005, as well.

Our very own Marcy Maguire, CEO of the Maguire Auto Group, however, is one of the few women announced as 1 of the 100 Leading Women in the Automotive industry in 2005 and 2010! And, just like Keith Edwards, Editor-In-Chief of Automotive News, stated in his opening remarks about the 100 Leading Women, “the survivors are succeeding and setting high standards for executives for years to come” – Marcy Maguire is just that.

The women on this list are, “at the forefront of thousands of successful female executives in the auto industry,” and, “their accomplishments are notable and deserve recognition”, Edwards. In Automotive News’ article on the 100 Leading Women in the Automotive Industry written on September 13, 2010, the 100 leading women were interviewed and spoke candidly about their involvement in the auto industry and balancing work and family.

Marcy Maguire was interviewed by Donna Harris and her recap of the interview was as follows:

Why did you want to work in the auto industry? I saw Saturn as an opportunity to take a fresh approach to the auto industry. I invested in it and got involved because I enjoyed the process.

First automotive job: I opened Saturn of Bordentown [N.J.]. Bob Stempel, former CEO of General Motors, attended the grand opening. And his wife, Pat, bought my first Saturn, a red coupe.

Proudest professional achievement: I have had the historic opportunity to serve in two positions as a National Automobile Dealers Association director — as a woman director at large from 2004 to 2007, and then again in 2008 I was unanimously elected by the New Jersey dealers to serve as the director for New Jersey. No one else has held two NADA directorships.

Current challenge at work: The biggest challenge is the lending environment both for consumers and for dealers. Credit hasn’t loosened up enough.

What you do to relax: I spend time with friends — I would say friends and laughter.
————————–

Of the 100 accomplished women on the list, 3 are NADA directors, 8 are auto dealers and 4 are executives of automotive groups! Marcy Maguire, our CEO, is not only categorized in one of those…but in all three!

According to Mary Beth Vander Schaaf, “Readers helped us find leading women by nominating more than 300 executives. A team of editors and reporters — with assistance from Terry Barclay, CEO of Inforum; Craig Giffi, U.S. automotive leader at Deloitte; and Katherine Otrompke, Automotive Women’s Alliance Foundation board member — weighed the qualifications of each nominee. We looked for influential women at automakers, Tier 1 suppliers and dealerships who make major decisions.”

Congratulations to all of the women that were on this year’s and past years’ lists! We are all looking forward to seeing the greatness you achieve in the future!

2010 Nissan Rogue Review

The 2010 Rogue comes in S and SL trims. Both are powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder aluminum-block engine producing 170 horsepower, 175 pound/feet of torque and automatic “shiftless” Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), something Nissan perfected in the Maxima and Altima. Buyers can opt for either front-wheel drive or the all-wheel-drive system, which comes with yaw moment control for added stability on slippery road surfaces.

2010 Nissan Rogue

On the SL, paddle shifters are available for those who want to control the CVT’s shifts through a set of simulated gears. The Rogue’s suspension and steering are configured to provide good ride comfort and stable handling. There are struts, rebound springs, and coil springs in front and a multi-link setup with rebound springs in back, while the steering uses electric power assist.

Electronic stability control is also included on all Rogues. The Rogue’s instrument panel follows a driver-oriented, cockpit design. The interior has many versatile storage spaces, such as a large partitioned glove box, easy-to-use center console, and a rear cargo organizer with vertical cargo nets. The 60/40-split rear seat folds down to expand the cargo area.
Standard on the S trims are 16-inch steel wheels, cruise control, tilting steering wheel, air-conditioning, full power accessories, keyless entry and a four-speaker audio system with CD player and auxiliary jack. No options are available for the S trim level. New for 2010 is the “Krom Edition”.
