Chevy Calling on Fans to Hit Home Run for Youth Baseball

To celebrate the start of the 2011 Major League Baseball season, Chevrolet is giving fans a chance to win one of 100 prizes for their community baseball programs – from youth-baseball field makeovers to new equipment; even a trip for four to the MLB All-Star Game®.

Since 2006, Chevy has provided equipment, fundraising support, and baseball clinics to more than 1.5 million youth baseball players and their families, donating more than $11 million.

That includes more than 70,000 tickets to MLB and Minor League Baseball games and more than 350 clinics for young players, many with players and coaches from MLB.

More than 1,400 Chevrolet dealerships will provide support for local baseball leagues through the Chevy Youth Baseball program this year.

The first pitch of the 2011 Chevrolet “Diamonds & Dreams” program is a 30-second television spot, featuring youth baseball players recreating some of the most “Famous Baseball Moments,” from Babe Ruth calling his home run in the 1932 World Series to Kirk Gibson’s iconic fist pump as he ran the bases during the 1988 World Series.

“Every baseball player remembers the feeling of stepping up to the plate as a kid, and swinging for the fences,” said Rick Scheidt, US vice president, Chevrolet marketing. “It’s easy to imagine that somewhere in America, there’s a future baseball star just starting out in a T-ball or coach-pitch baseball league.”

To help these future All-Stars, Chevrolet is partnering with The Scotts Company LLC, Ripken Baseball, Ripken Design, Rawlings Sporting Goods, MLB Advanced Media, and Major League Baseball to provide 100 prizes to local youth-baseball teams, including:

  • 20 youth baseball field makeovers, with the 20 field nominees each receiving a year’s worth of ScottsMiracle-Gro products
  • 20 baseball clinics from famed Ripken Baseball
  • 60 baseball equipment packages for youth baseball teams from Rawlings

One hundred winners will be drawn from all eligible entries submitted online at www.chevybaseball.com. In addition to winning youth baseball prizes for their community, each of the 100 winners also will be entered for a chance to win one of four trips for four to the MLB All-Star Game® on July 12th in Phoenix and the chance to win a Chevrolet. Baseball fans can submit entries beginning today through May 31, 2011. Winners will be announced in June.  For official rules please visit www.chevybaseball.com.    To celebrate baseball come #playcatch with @Chevrolet on Twitter and get your friends in on the game. http://t.co/KN6HYdm

Administering renovations for the 20 field makeovers is Ripken Design, the sports design and consulting firm owned by National Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. and his brother, 12-year Major League Baseball veteran, Billy Ripken.

Scotts, the Official Lawn Care Company of MLB, continues to partner with Chevrolet and MLB on multiple field refurbishments. Scotts believes that it is important to offer youth a safe, reliable field and playing area.  In addition to helping reduce injuries, a strong foundation of thick and lush grass helps to create a beautiful environment that encourages children to spend time outdoors.

In 2010, Chevrolet, Scotts, and Ripken Design provided five field makeovers for youth baseball.

To see a before-and-after video of the 2010 Diamonds and Dreams field makeovers, please visit www.chevybaseball.com, or the Chevrolet YouTube channel.

* No Purchase Necessary. Ends May 31, 2011. Open to legal residents of the 50 U.S. & DC, 18+. Void where prohibited. Odds of winning a prize will depend on the number of eligible entries received for the applicable drawing. For rules visit chevybaseball.com.

Bob Maguire Chevrolet’s Tips to Achieve Better Gas Mileage

Tune Up:

A properly tuned engine can improve fuel economy about 4 percent, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Pump Up:

Properly inflated tires improve gas mileage by up to 3.3 percent. Properly inflated tires are safer and last longer. Under-inflated tires can lower fuel economy by 0.3 percent for every one pound-per-square-inch drop in the pressure of all four tires.

Unpack:

Carrying unneeded cargo makes your vehicle work harder and use more gas. The EPA says an extra 100 pounds reduces fuel economy up to 2 percent – even more in smaller vehicles.

Slow Down:

While each vehicle reaches its optimal fuel economy at a different speed (or range of speeds), gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph, according to the EPA. Every 5 mph over 60 mph is like adding an additional 24 cents per gallon for gas.

Avoid Idling:

A car gets 0 mpg when the engine is idling.

Chill Out:

Speeding, rapid acceleration and braking can lower gas mileage by 33 percent on the highway and 5 percent in city driving.

Put it in Overdrive:

Using an overdrive gear on the highway reduces engine speed, saving both fuel and engine wear.

Roll ‘Em Down Around Town:

Air conditioning reduces fuel efficiency by up to 10 percent. Avoid using the air conditioner by rolling down the windows at speeds below 40 mph. At speeds above 45 mph, wind drag uses more fuel than running the A/C.

Unclog:

Older cars without fuel injection and computer-controlled technology can lose 14 percent of their fuel economy because of a dirt-clogged air filter, which also can damage the engine. A clean air filter improves acceleration.

Use the Right Oil

: Because oil reduces engine friction and friction makes an engine work harder, using the manufacturer’s recommended grade of oil improves fuel economy by 1 percent to 2 percent.

Plan your Trips:

Taking your kids to soccer or swim classes? Grocery shopping? Plan logical routes and timing to avoid heavy periods of traffic congestion.

Cap Check:

A missing or poorly fitting gas cap can reduce fuel economy by 1 to 2 percent.

OnStar Diagnostics:

OnStar provides regular Diagnostics on a monthly and now on a remote immediate basis (with the OnStar App). You have an accurate reading of all of the technical information you need to take simple pre-cautions to reduce the fuel consumption of your car.

What do you think f the new Colroado Truck?

Chevrolet today offered a sneak peek at its Colorado show truck that will officially be unveiled prior to the 32nd  Bangkok International Motor Show, which begins March 25.

The show truck previews the next-generation Colorado midsize pickup truck, which will build on Chevrolet’s strong truck DNA and awardwinning heritage.Thailand was chosen as the site of the global debut because of the popularity of pickup trucks and the growing importance of the Thai market to Chevrolet.

In 2010, the pickup truck segment accounted for 43 percent of vehicles sold in Thailand. The new Colorado will go on sale there later this year.

“Trucks play a key role in most Southeast Asian markets,” said Susan Docherty, vice president, GMIO Sales, Marketing and Aftersales.“Nowhere is this more evident than in Thailand, where trucks like the Colorado are ingrained in the local lifestyle.

Thailand was a natural place to give the public a first glimpse of our all-new Colorado.”More information on the truck will be revealed at the global premiere.

The public can get its first look at the Chevrolet Colorado show truck at the Bangkok International Motor Show from March 25 to April 5.

Tips on Better Gas Mileage from Bob Maguire Chevrolet and Windsor Nissan

Tips on Better Gas Mileage from Bob Maguire Chevrolet and Windsor Nissan

Here are a dozen tips for fuel savings from Bob Maguire Chevrolet’s Certified Service & Windsor Nissan’s Service Departments:

Tune Up: A properly tuned engine can improve fuel economy about 4 percent, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Fixing a serious issue – such as faulty oxygen sensor – can boost mileage up to 40 percent.  And don’t ignore a service-engine-soon light.

Pump Up: Properly inflated tires improve gas mileage by up to 3.3 percent. Properly inflated tires are safer and last longer. Under-inflated tires can lower fuel economy by 0.3 percent for every one pound-per-square-inch drop in the pressure of all four tires. Do not rely solely on the tire pressure monitoring system to detect an under-inflated tire – it’s best to check tires with a good gauge once a month and check your owner’s manual for more information.

Unpack: Carrying unneeded cargo makes your vehicle work harder and use more gas. The EPA says an extra 100 pounds reduces fuel economy up to 2 percent – even more in smaller vehicles. A loaded roof rack cuts fuel economy by up to 5 percent. About a quarter of each gallon of gas goes toward overcoming wind resistance, so when cargo rides on top of the vehicle, fuel economy is reduced. Even empty ski/snowboard and bike racks can affect aerodynamics, so remove them when the seasons are over.

Slow Down:   While each vehicle reaches its optimal fuel economy at a different speed (or range of speeds), gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph, according to the EPA. Every 5 mph over 60 mph is like adding an additional 24 cents per gallon for gas.

Avoid Idling: A car gets 0 mpg when the engine is idling: While it does take a small amount of fuel to restart a vehicle, 15 minutes in the drive-through can burn through a quarter of a gallon of fuel. So that dollar menu is more like a $2 menu.

Chill Out: Speeding, rapid acceleration and braking can lower gas mileage by 33 percent on the highway and 5 percent in city driving.

Put it in Overdrive: Using an overdrive gear on the highway reduces engine speed, saving both fuel and engine wear.

Roll ‘Em Down Around Town: Air conditioning reduces fuel efficiency by up to 10 percent. Avoid using the air conditioner by rolling down the windows at speeds below 40 mph. At speeds above 45 mph, wind drag uses more fuel than running the A/C.

Unclog: It’s hard to run if you can’t breathe. Older cars without fuel injection and computer-controlled technology can lose 14 percent of their fuel economy because of a dirt-clogged air filter, which also can damage the engine. A clean air filter improves acceleration. An air filter full of dirt makes the engine work harder and can let in impurities that damage the engine. Replacing a severely plugged filter improves fuel economy by up to 14 percent, according to the EPA. In modern cars, replacing a dirty or clogged air filter improves acceleration performance

Use the Right Oil: Because oil reduces engine friction and friction makes an engine work harder, using the manufacturer’s recommended grade of oil improves fuel economy by 1 percent to 2 percent.

Plan your Trips: Taking your kids to soccer or swim classes? Grocery shopping?  Plan routes and timing to avoid heavy periods of traffic congestion.

Cap Check: Loose or poorly fitting gas gaps not only can trigger a “check engine light” warning, they send 147 million gallons of gasoline into the air as vapor every year, according to a report by the Discovery Channel. A missing or poorly fitting cap can reduce fuel economy by 1 to 2 percent.

The Chevrolet Cruze is named Urban Car of the Year by judges at Decisive Media and an independent panel of 15 automotive journalists! It is no wonder why the Cruze won this title: could it be its spaciousness and amenities like a midsized car mixed with the fuel economy of a compact with a very low price tag to go with it? I think that may have something to do with it…

2011 Chevrolet VOLT is Automobile of the year

The Chevrolet VOLT was named Automobile of the Year for many reasons, one of which was being the first mass-produced electric vehicle with an extended range. AUTOMOBILE Magazine editors wrote, “This is the most sophisticated, most important vehicle on the road today. It won’t just change what we drive, but also how we drive. Owners will plug in at night, heat or cool their cabin before they leave the garage, and adopt new driving styles to maximize their electric range. Then, when the battery is depleted, they’ll mindlessly motor on; free of the limitations that accompanies pure electric vehicles.”
