Fuel-efficient powertrains; high-mileage Malibu ECO model; fresh, contemporary styling; MyLink connectivity; improved ride and handling
The Chevrolet Malibu has been completely redesigned for 2013, featuring an all-new styling inside and out, more economical new powertrains, improved ride and handling, more safety equipment and the new Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with integrated Pandora and Stitcher audio streaming. Compared to the previous Malibu, this one is only slightly shorter, but it has a bit more interior volume plus more shoulder and hip room. Chevrolet is doing away with the V6 and instead going with an all-4-cylinder engine lineup. For now, there’s a conventional 2.5L 4-cylinder model, as well as a green, fuel-saving 2.4L 4-cylinder engine and electric motor combination good for EPA ratings of 25 mpg city, 37 highway. A turbocharged version of the Malibu is expected later in the model year.
The all-new Malibu competes with mid-size 4-door sedans like the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata; but with its 2013 redesign, the Malibu is being reconfigured more toward busy, always-connected parents and those who place a priority on fuel efficiency. For that, at somewhat less than the Camry Hybrid or Fusion Hybrid, the Malibu ECO stands out as a strong value–especially for those who plan to do more mileage on the highway. The Malibu should also hit the mark for shoppers who want a fresh design, as well as those who need to stay connected. Design-wise, the Malibu looks fresh and up-to-date with the rest of the Chevrolet lineup. And with the standard MyLink system, drivers can get simple hands-free calling functions as well as entertainment through streaming-audio apps.
The standard powertrain for most of the Malibu lineup in 2012 will be a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. The new engine has direct injection and overhead cams, with four valves per cylinder and makes 190 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque on regular-grade gas. At a slightly higher price, the Malibu ECO will provide an option for those who want to maximize their fuel-efficiency. The ECO includes a 182-hp, 2.4L 4-cylinder engine combined with a 15-kW belt-driven motor/generator system that operates as a mild-hybrid system, boosting the powertrain during acceleration recapturing and storing some energy during coasting and braking. The system also allows the engine to shut off at stoplights, and then restart automatically when you lift your foot back off the brake pedal. The Malibu ECO also includes a small lithium-ion battery pack, stored just behind the rear seats. Altogether, the Malibu ECO achieves an EPA-rated 25 mpg city, 37 highway. Also on Malibu ECO models, an active shutter system shuts off airflow at the lower air intake when it’s not needed for cooling. And thanks to an aerodynamically optimized exterior, the new Malibu has the same coefficient of drag as the Chevrolet Volt. Across the model line, the Malibu gets a swoopy new dual-cockpit interior design, with much-upgraded materials; its exterior design has also been refreshed to fit in with other Chevy models like the Camaro and Cruze. One of the design highlights of the interior is a radio face that swivels outward, then up and in, to reveal a large storage space behind. The ECO comes standard with a lane-departure warning system, as well as rear parking sensors and a rearview camera system. There are eight standard airbags on all 2013 Malibu models, and separate rear thorax bags will also be optional. Just as the previous version, the 2013 Malibu is expected to come in a full range of trims, including basic LS, mid-range LT and top-of-the-line LTZ. Remote keyless entry, cruise control and tilt/telescopic steering adjustment were among many standard features at the base LS level, while LT models included upgraded wheels and trim (plus in step-up packages, extras like heated seats and remote start). The LTZ last year included more luxurious dress-ups, plus a sunroof, heated side mirrors, power leather seats, and automatic climate control. Look for LED taillamps to be offered, with HID headlamps available on top trims. All 2013 Malibu trims will include MyLink, a touch-screen-based system that serves as a hub for hands-free connectivity with smartphones, or media players connected by USB, and has integrated applications for Pandora and Stitcher internet radio services.

Bob Maguire Chevrolet Is Ready to Play Ball with Bordentown Little League as Part of National Chevrolet Youth Baseball Program
Bob Maguire Chevroletis partnering with the Bordentown Little League in Bordentown, NJ. Bob Maguire Chevrolethas joined forces with the national Chevrolet Youth Baseball program to providenew equipment, instructional clinics, a monetary donation and an opportunity to raise an additional $10,000 through a Chevrolet vehicle sweepstakes. The program kicks off March 1 and runs through July 15, 2012.
“Youth baseball provides positive and productive life lessons for young people across America, and the Chevrolet Youth Baseball program is an extension of Chevrolet’s commitment to baseball, community and families. Bob Maguire Chevrolet is bringing that same dedication to youth baseball,”said Michael Maguire, Presidentfor Bob Maguire Chevrolet.
“There is nothing more American than Chevrolet and baseball and Bob Maguire Chevrolet wants to combine America’s favorite brand and favorite pastime together for our families in Bordentown to enjoy,” added Michael Maguire.
The Chevrolet Youth Baseball program is beginning its seventh year, and has helped raise more than $13 million to aid local teams, affecting more than 2.7 million young people in communities where Chevrolet’s customers live, work and play. This year, about 1,600 Chevrolet dealers are participating.
Bob Maguire Chevrolet will present the Bordentown Little League with 10 new equipment kits complete with equipment bags, baseball buckets, whiffle balls, hitting net, batting tees and Chevrolet Youth Baseball T-shirts. The opening ceremony and kick-off to the Bordentown Little League season will be Saturday, April 14, 2012. The sponsorship also includes youth clinics featuring former MLB/MiLB players and coaches and instructors from Ripken Baseball.
In addition, Bob Maguire Chevroletwill present a check representing a one-time monetary donation to Bordentown Little League. The team also will have an opportunity to raise additional funds through a Chevrolet Youth Baseball Fund-raiser. Sponsored leagues across the country will each receive 2,000 fund-raiser entry tickets to distribute for a suggested donation, and each league will keep 100 percent of the proceeds it raises. At the end of the fund-raiser, five winners – one from each region – will win the Chevrolet Equinox or Chevrolet Cruze vehicle of their choice. Each participating market will award a secondary prize of a television and Blu-Ray player.
In addition to its commitment to youth baseball, Chevrolet also is the Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball™.

OnStar will soon offer customers Family Link, a new service that will allow subscribers to stay connected to their loved ones when driving an OnStar-equipped vehicle.
Family Link is an optional service that includes two key features:
- Vehicle Locate: Subscribers can log onto the Family Link website to view a map with the vehicle’s location at any time.
- Vehicle Location Alert: Subscribers can set up email or text message notifications to let them know the location of their vehicle. They can choose the day, time and frequency of the alerts.
Family Link is OnStar’s first a la carte service. Subscribers can add it to any existing OnStar package for $3.99 per month.
“We’re very excited that OnStar is offering this service to families in our community,” said Michael Maguire, President for Bob Maguire Chevrolet. “OnStar has been offering our customers peace of mind on the road for years, and Family Link will only help strengthen that feeling of security.”
Family Link begins a phased launch in mid-April with select subscribers invited to sign up. More subscribers will receive an invitation in June. The service will roll out to all U.S. subscribers – including those in New Jersey – throughout the year.
“For more than 16 years, OnStar has developed and enhanced our service by listening to our customers,” said OnStar Vice President of Subscriber Services Joanne Finnorn. “They tell us how they use technology and what they want it to do. Last year, we had more than 4,500 subscribers test the Family Link service and they told us it provides them peace of mind by staying connected to their family when they’re on the road.”
Access to the Family Link website requires an OnStar user name and password. Only the subscriber with access can locate a vehicle or request alerts.
To use Vehicle Locate, subscribers log onto the Family Link website and navigate to the Vehicles tab and click on Locate. Once the vehicle has been located, the vehicle’s icon will be shown on the map. Additional location details can be seen by hovering over the vehicle.
To set up a Location Alert, subscribers log on to the Family Link website and navigate to the Alerts tab and click on Add Alert. The subscriber can request the day of week and time to receive an alert, as well as notification preference: text, email or both. Location Alerts will include the address the vehicle is near as well as the date and time.
