For 2011, the mid-size Murano crossover vehicle gets a new look in front, including a different grille design, new LED taillights, and refreshed bumper and fascia designs. Graphite Blue is a new addition to the exterior palette. Inside, the hue of the instrument-panel lighting has been changed from orange to white. Nissan has added a new SV trim to the Murano lineup this year, slotting between the base S and popular SL models but below the most luxurious LE trim.

The SV adds Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity, satellite radio, a dual-panel moonroof, a color monitor screen with backup camera and a power driver seat. The SL and LE trims get other additional standard equipment this year, with new woodgrain trim and fresh center-stack colors making the LE cabin more of a standout. Late in the model year, there will be an addition to the Murano lineup: the new Murano CrossCabriolet, a 2-door 4-seat soft-top version of the Murano that has a higher ride height than other convertibles while offering some of the same interior plush interior comforts and details as the rest of the Murano models.

The Murano lineup is now offered in four different trims-S, SV, SL and LE. While each of the models are offered in a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, they’re all powered by the same 260-horsepower, 3.5L V6 engine connected to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Altogether, the powertrain is smooth and responsive, and the all-wheel drive system isn’t configured so much for off-roading as to improve traction and stability on slippery roads. Ride and handling in the Murano is also oriented for family use on streets and boulevards rather than rutted trails. The 4-wheel independent suspension with large front and rear stabilizer bars allows an absorbent ride with crisp handling, and the speed-sensitive power-steering system-much like the one used in the Nissan Maxima sport sedan-has a nice weighting along with some feedback from the road.

Larger 20-inch alloy wheels help give the Murano a somewhat more aggressive stance in LE models, but the 18-inchers in S, SV and SL models have been redesigned this year, too. Chromed door handles and dual exhaust tips help provide accents and all models but the S can be had with roof rails. Inside, the Murano has a stylish look, including luxury-caliber surfaces and trims, available double-stitched leather upholstery and, in general, a warmer, softer look than you’d find in most mid-size crossovers. The cabin includes a dual-level center console, huge glove compartment, various storage pockets and ample cupholders. There’s enough space for three in back, and the split-folding seats flip to a nearly flat floor quite easily. The Murano S lands at the affordable end of the lineup and includes power windows and locks, keyless entry, a 6-speaker audio system, push-button start and an iPod interface. The SL adds Bluetooth hands-free, a rear-view monitor, roof rails, and privacy glass, while the SL brings a power rear seatback return, a power liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, leather upholstery, heated seats and mirrors, a garage-door opener and Bose premium audio with 2GB of audio storage. Top LE models get silver-accented roof rails, rain-sensing wipers, HID bi-xenon headlamps, and 20-inch titanium-finish alloy wheels, plus a power-adjustable steering wheel with memory setting, woodgrain interior trim and heated rear seats. Options at the top of the line are limited to a Navigation Package that brings a touch-screen navigation system and 9.3 GB of music storage, plus Bluetooth Streaming Audio and voice recognition. The new CrossCabriolet convertible will only be offered in top LE trim, with space enough in back for two adults and a trunk that’s significantly smaller-at about eight cubic feet-than the standard Murano.

    2011 Chevrolet Traverse Review

    The 2011 Traverse is available in three trims: the base LS, the mid-range LT and the luxury LTZ. Each is available with either front- or all-wheel drive. All trims are powered by a 3.6L V6 engine with direct fuel injection. All LS and LT engines deliver 281 horsepower and 266 foot-pounds of torque.

    2011 Traverse

    The LTZ gets a slightly more powerful version of the same engine, which delivers 288 horsepower and 270 foot-pounds of torque at 3400 rpm. A 6-speed automatic transmission is the only transmission available. The 2011 Traverse comes with variable-effort rack-and-pinion steering and a low center of mass for stable cornering. The 4-wheel independent suspension allows for a compliant ride and a maximum towing capacity of up to 5,200 pounds, comparable to some truck-based mid-size SUVs.

     Safety was given priority in the Traverse’s engineering and feature list. Stabilitrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation technology, is standard, as is anti-lock brakes, panic brake assist and six airbags, including head-curtain side bags that cover all three rows of seating. An extremely roomy interior is one of the Traverse’s strengths. The three rows provide seating for up to seven or eight, depending on whether buyers opt for captain’s chairs or 60/40-split bench seat for the second row. The bench slides fore and aft for easier access to the third row or added seating space. There are plenty of bins and cubbies all around, as well as ten cup holders.

    2011 Traverse Interior

    The Traverse’s look is quite different between trims, thanks to a wide range of wheel offerings. LS models get 17-inch wheels, the LT upgrades to 18-inch machined aluminum wheels, and LTZ models get flashy, 20-inch machined aluminum wheels as standard. The base LS models are well-appointed and include keyless entry, cruise control, front and rear air conditioning and MP3-compatible CD audio. The 1LT trim adds as standard heated mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with controls, rear parking aid, trip computer, aluminum wheels and power driver seat. The 2LT trim adds climate control, dual zone A/C, premium sound system, electrochromic rearview mirror, backup camera, power liftgate and four bucket seats. The top-line LTZ adds a power passenger seat, heated and cooled seats, passenger lumbar, seat memory, mirror memory, remote engine start, universal garage door opener, wireless cell phone hookup, power folding mirrors and performance tires. Noteworthy options include a DVD entertainment system, dual-panel sunroof, leather upholstery and navigation system.

    2010 Nissan Rogue Review

    The 2010 Rogue comes in S and SL trims. Both are powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder aluminum-block engine producing 170 horsepower, 175 pound/feet of torque and automatic “shiftless” Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), something Nissan perfected in the Maxima and Altima. Buyers can opt for either front-wheel drive or the all-wheel-drive system, which comes with yaw moment control for added stability on slippery road surfaces.

    On the SL, paddle shifters are available for those who want to control the CVT’s shifts through a set of simulated gears. The Rogue’s suspension and steering are configured to provide good ride comfort and stable handling. There are struts, rebound springs, and coil springs in front and a multi-link setup with rebound springs in back, while the steering uses electric power assist.

    Electronic stability control is also included on all Rogues. The Rogue’s instrument panel follows a driver-oriented, cockpit design. The interior has many versatile storage spaces, such as a large partitioned glove box, easy-to-use center console, and a rear cargo organizer with vertical cargo nets. The 60/40-split rear seat folds down to expand the cargo area.
    Standard on the S trims are 16-inch steel wheels, cruise control, tilting steering wheel, air-conditioning, full power accessories, keyless entry and a four-speaker audio system with CD player and auxiliary jack. No options are available for the S trim level. New for 2010 is the “Krom Edition”.

    Rogue Interior

    Based on the S trim, it adds 17-inch bright aluminum wheels, fog lamps, sport exhaust, a sport spoiler, steering wheel audio controls, privacy glass, and special styling touches exclusive to the Krom editons. These special editions are available in both 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive variants. The SL trim level includes everything from the S model plus 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, body-color power outside mirrors, fold-down front passenger seat, dual-level tray for the center console, 6-way manual adjustable driver’s seat, rear privacy glass and polished stainless steel exhaust tip.

    Rogue Rear View

    Option packages for the SL trim include the Premium Package with fog lights, foldable cargo organizer, cargo cover, keyless ignition/entry, Bluetooth, 7-speaker Bose audio system with a 6-CD changer, satellite radio and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. SL trims with AWD also receive xenon headlights and manual shift control with the Premium Package. The SL’s Leather Package includes leather upholstery and heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated side mirrors, 6-way power driver’s seat, one-touch up/down driver window and auto-dimming rearview mirror. A sunroof is available as a stand-alone option.
