2012 Nissan Frontier Honored by Kelley Blue Book

It’s no secret Nissan takes pride in developing quality vehicles that are built to last. Now others are recognizing the automaker for those same efforts. The 2012 Frontier was recently named as on the Top 10 cars with Best Resale Value according to Kelley Blue Book.

You invest a lot of money in your vehicle and in addition to quality and dependability; you want a vehicle that is going to retain its value if you decide to trade-it-in or sell it. That’s what you’ll get with the 2012 Frontier. The Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value awards—announced every year since 1981—are considered the industry-standard because government agencies, the automotive leasing industry and banks/financial institutions rely on these rankings/figures to help with their projections/values.

It’s no surprise that Nissan would create a vehicle that would earn an honor like this. As for the 2012 Frontier, you get the same great style and performance you would expect from a Nissan truck. That includes a 261-hp V6 and full-length, fully boxed frame for strength and the traditional off-road capabilities that makes Nissan trucks among the industry leaders. The Frontier Crew Cab Standard, which has room for five, has 6,500-pound towing capacity, proving tough for rugged conditions, but sporty and efficient for everyday use.

All the traditional features of Nissan are in place with the 2012 Frontier. And because of its strong resale value, you’ll get your money’s worth when you decide to trade-it-in or sell it to purchase your next latest and greatest Nissan model. Stop in to Windsor Nissan for a test drive today!

Windsor Nissan’s 2012 Armada Review

Strengths

Powerful and rugged full-sized SUV; seats up to eight; plenty of cargo space and towing capacity

Changes

The Armada stays mostly the same for 2012, apart from the SL and Platinum models receiving a power liftgate and the Platinum model gets 2nd-row heated seats.

Value

When it comes to brute power, the Armada is king. Its V8 engine can handle three rows of people, at least 6,500 pounds in tow and the gear that goes with it all. The three available trim levels offer a price point for almost everyone, with the Platinum model having all the luxury appointments of its competitors, but at a lower price.

Overview

The Nissan Armada is powered by a 5.6L V8 engine that makes 317 horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque via the use of continuous variable valve timing. It comes mated to a 5-speed automatic with tow/haul mode. All three trim levels, SV, SL and Platinum, are available as rear-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive. Despite its size and massive engine, the Armada is surprisingly responsive. It incorporates anti-lock brakes, active brake limited slip, electronic brake force distribution and brake assist. It also has independent double wishbone suspension front and rear, with the rear being auto-leveling.

The Armada comes with standard automatic headlights, heated power outside mirrors and rear sonar for assistance while backing up. The differences between the three Armada styles start with the exterior. The SV sits on 18-inch wheels and a body-color grille, while the SL and Platinum get 20-inch rims and a chrome grille. As for the interior, it comes with dual-zone temperature control, rear air conditioning with rear controls, cruise control, 8-way driver’s seat and speed-sensitive windshield wipers. The SL and Platinum trims add standard keyless ignition, Bluetooth, a 4-way passenger seat, power 60/40 third-row seat, leather seats, a power liftgate and wood trim. Exclusive to the Platinum level is the Nissan Hard Drive Navigation System with XM NavTraffic, heated front and second-row seats with memory and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel. Seating eight people means there are rear-seat passengers who need entertainment, so the Armada has a standard 6-CD system with MP3 playback, auxiliary jack and rear audio controls with wireless headphone capability and headphone jacks. The stereo can be upgraded in the SL and Platinum Armadas to a 12-speaker Bose system, while a 9.3GB Music Box hard drive and card reader are standard equipment at the Platinum level.

Not-So-Obvious Ways to Keep Your Car Running Great

When it comes to proper maintenance of your car, there’s the typical stuff you hear all the time. Most of it involves fluids: changing your oil, changing your coolant, changing your transmission fluid. On the hardware side, replacing fuel filters, windshield wipers and checking your tire pressure are all important maintenance habits.

But there are also are some less-obvious things you can do to make sure your car stays running and healthy.

Use your parking brake on hills. If you depend on your transmission to keep your car in place on a hill — by putting it in park — you are putting a lot of pressure on a tiny pin called a parking pawl. Add years to the life of your transmission, and use the parking brake on hills.

Change the differential fluid. About every 60K miles, you will want to have a mechanic change the differential fluid. Like the transmission, the differential is extremely important to the forward motion of your car and very expensive to replace.

Lose some weight. Many of us live in our cars too many hours of the day, and we tend to acquire freight in the back seat and trunk. Is that crockpot still back there? Is that really four bags of laundry? Oh, that’s where you left that generator. Hauling that extra weight around takes its toll on your car by making it work harder (and reducing your miles per gallon). It’s time to unload.

Make a complete stop before shifting. It’s easy to get lazy when you’re backing out of a spot and want to get going, but shifting into drive before your car is ready is a sure way to cook your transmission—not right away, but over time. Bring your car to a full stop and then shift. A transmission is a terrible thing to waste.

One final tip — schedule your next service with Windsor Nissanto keep your car running great.

The Color Red

You’re going to see a lot of red this month, and while red is the color of passionate love, people spread a lot of rumors about red cars and their drivers.

The conventional wisdom about what happens to red cars out on the road is almost all myth, urban legend or just plain dumb.

Myth #1 — Red cars get pulled over more often by the police. According to snopes.com, there is no evidence for police targeting red cars any more than other cars. One unscientific investigation by a St. Petersburg, FL reporter found that grey cars get pulled over more and white cars get pulled over less often.

Myth #2 — Red cars get in more accidents than other cars. There is no evidence that red cars are disproportionately more likely to be in crashes, and a AAA study states “any study that reports red cars are more prone to crashes needs to rule out higher number of red cars on the road and disproportionate numbers of bad drivers (e.g. young males) owning red cars.” In fact, Swedish researchers claim that black cars are more likely to be in accidents because they are harder to see and that pink cars had the fewest accidents. White cars were also under-represented in accidents.

Myth #3 — Red cars have higher insurance premiums. No insurance company has ever charged red car owners more for their insurance. It just doesn’t happen. Most insurance companies don’t even ask what color your car is.

So the next time you’re in the market for a new vehicle or even if you’re considering a new paint job, don’t be afraid of choosing red and letting your passion show.

2012 Nissan Altima Sedan at Windsor Nissan

There are a number of reasons the Nissan Altima Sedan is celebrating its 20th year of existence in 2012. Not only have Nissan engineers put the Altima through over 5,000 quality and durability tests to ensure performance year-after-year, this sedan provides a smooth ride, is easy to handle and perfect for the driver looking for a vehicle that some see as sporty and others see as luxury.

But what may stand out the most about the 2012 Altima is the 5-star rating for side-impact crash safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. All 2012 Altima’s are equipped with the most modern safety features, including front seat side-impact airbags and a side curtain airbag covering both rows. The 2012 Altima also comes with the anti-lock brakes and stability and traction control. The Institute of Highway Safety also gave the 2012 Altima the highest possible rating in side crash and frontal-offset tests. That’s the type of commitment you can expect from Nissan, where safety is not an option, but a requirement.

There are five different 2012 Altima packages to choose from, each sure to have something for everyone’s driving needs, including a special edition Nissan Altima 20th anniversary package. You can choose from a fuel-efficient, four-cylinder 175 HP engine, or the more powerful V6, 270 HP versions. Known for its plush interior, the Sedan provides plenty of room and comfort and the option for additional amenities such as Bluetooth streaming audio, rearview camera and a hard drive-based navigation system.

There’s a reason the Altima has been a staple of Nissan for two decades. It’s a combination of efficiency, sport and luxury all in one vehicle. See Windsor Nissan to take the 2012 Nissan Altima for a test drive today!
