Eligible Vehicles for Scrappage program

In a recent press conference last week, President Obama outlined his plans for revival of the Auto industry and steps taken by his administration to solve the financial crisis faced by the Auto industry.  The major focus was on bail out of General Motors and Chrysler restructuring plan. 

To boost the auto sales, President aims to create “Scrappage program”, similar to a program launched in Germany last year which was very successful and had increased auto sales 21% in Germany. Scrappage program would give consumers a rebate when they go for a new car when they trade in or scrap their old car.  Also incentive for consumers that would allow tax paid on the new car to be deducted from one’s income tax. This tax deduction program would be valid for vehicles purchased from February 16 to December31 of this year.
