2010 Chevy Silverado Review

The 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2 out of 8 full size pickup trucks. This ranking is based on our analysis of 65 published reviews and test drives of Chevy Silverado 1500. The 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks haven’t change significantly for 2010 model year, but Chevy tweaked some of the truck’s features and turned a couple of options into standard equipment.

The 2010 model still offers a staggering number of engines, trim levels, bed lengths, suspension configurations and other options. The Chevrolet Silverado has comfort and practicality in a rugged package. The Silverado equipped with 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.2L engines. The 4.8L and 5.3L engines have variable valve timing and also improves the feature, performance and fuel economy. The regular cab and extended cab trucks with 5.3L V-8 engines are equipped with a 6speed automatic transmission.

3.08 axle ratio and fuel saver mode are standard with Silverado trucks equipped with a 5.3L V-8 engine. The features are Side curtain air bags, seat mounted side air bags are standard on all 1500 Silverado trucks, the USB connectivity too on all radios except the base model, which will play the audio files through the audio system, charges battery for some handheld devices.

The Silverado 1500 is available with two-wheel or four-wheel drive; with a short, standard or long bed; with a regular, crew or extended cab, and in Work Truck, LT and LTZ trim levels. Reviewers enjoyed the Silverado’s capabilities and comfort regardless of which combination of the award winning truck they drove.

Drivers appreciate the Silverado’s gas mileage, which is among the best in the class. Interior door trim has been changed in this model. A rearview camera is available on more models. StabiliTrak electronic control system is now standard on all Silverado 1500 trucks.  It’s hard to find a bad review of the Chevrolet Silverado because most reviewers say it’s hard to find a competitor with it.

2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD: Lives Bigger, Drives Better, and Works Harder for YOU [Reason 1]

Over the next few weeks I will be outlining 11 reasons why the new 2011 Silverado Heavy Duty truck will crush any other heavy duty truck on the market. I have studied this truck…and have studied this truck…and for a change of pace, I have studied it some more…and I can not find a single job that this truck can not do – and I want nothing more than to share all of its glory with you!

For a little background on the 2011 HD:

Comprised of the broadest lineup of Silverado Heavy Duty trucks Chevrolet has ever provided, the new 2011 Silverado HD has something for everyone – literally. There are 19 models available, with 3 different trims to choose from, and a ‘Silverado-Extended-Cab-full’ of features for you to think about. Jim Campbell, Chevrolet’s General Manager, made sure that Chevy “…sought the input of [its] customers during the development of the 2011 Silverado HD to deliver a truck that meets or exceeds [the customers’] every need”, and, “…offers greater strength and capability – including class leading fuel economy, trailering and payload ratings – and has more power, accelerates quicker and has lower emissions” to those customers.

Reason #1: New Frames

The engineers determining the design of the HD’s frames were extremely attentive to its common customer and after uses. So much that they added access holes to the rear frame section for easier installation of 5th wheel or gooseneck style hitches and made sure that the frame mounted hitch for conventional trailering was stronger (made with a box-tube design), supporting up to 16,000 pounds.

Eleven all-new, fully boxed, frames have been engineered to improve durability and ride, while also supporting increased capability. The engineers added hydroformed front sections, increased cross sections and used high-strength steel for greater durability, higher towing capacity and improved ride and handling. The frames can bend up to 92% and 20% more, respectively, with the fully boxed sections enhancing torsional stiffness by a factor of 5.

Be on the look out for reason #2!

GM Makes First Electric Car Battery

GM Makes First Electric Car Battery
General Motors has made its first mass-produced electric car battery as it gears up to sell the new Chevrolet Volt to the general public later this year. The lithium-ion battery was made at GM’s Brownstown Battery Pack Assembly Plant that will produce the batteries for the automaker’s Volt assembly line in Detroit. Regular production at both facilities is expected to begin in the fourth quarter. It was just five months ago that GM announced it would invest $43 million to convert the empty 160,000-square-foot facility into a production ready battery-manufacturing plant.

GM Chairman Ed Whitacre Jr. had told reporters Wednesday that GM will send out some Volt models before November, when they are scheduled to hit showrooms. He said the company might sell a few early, and it could send some to consumers before November. GM has plans to test about 100 with utility companies before the showroom debut. This idea of the Volt should be great, even like the looks. The battery is of poor design. We see that it is one 5 foot long battery, and as most know, to be buried between the seats.

It won’t last forever and when it comes time to replace it, half the car needs to be disassembled. Unless of course there is some sort of access hatch, but at 5 feet long, should be doubtful.  It will not be easy to move one, lift one, etc. It’s not a one person job. On top of that, when one part of it malfunctions the whole thing needs to be replaced, which is incredibly wasteful and costly. They now cannot sell auxiliaries. If the battery was split into 3 batteries and “stacked” otherwise known as “daisy-chained” they could sell extra cells. They’d be more manageable, affordable, and I’d prefer to drive with spare battery cells that I can swap out on the side of the road, after lunch, a rest area, etc. That would also double it’s electric endurance form 40 miles to 80 on a single charge and single battery swap. I realize that’s still pathetic in the face of the cross-country vacation concept, but the car isn’t meant for that anyway. I’d rather swap batteries when I get home and charge the spares in case of bad weather, construction or other delays the following day.

GM ‘Fire Sale’ Generates Buzz

The fire sale initiated for Saturn and Pontiac cars for the December sales, has aroused the curiosity of many, this has been stated by two Pontiac dealers on Wednesday. General Motors has announced $7000 rebate on every Pontiac or Saturn Manufactured car that moves for rental or service fleet. Some dealers are not entirely sure that this is a good deal. The idea is to increase the sales by inducing buyers with lower rates. This decision to suddenly hike up the sales of Pontiac and Saturn cars has been made since General Motors has decided to bring an end to their nameplate, despite a major amount of restructuring done this year. General Motors deal with Penske Automobile Group regarding the sale of Saturn nameplate has also fallen through.

The factory rebate for Pontiac’s new models has already reached $6500, according to Fred Ferrara, General sales manager of Fairborn Buick Pontiac, GMC. He has also stated that the rebate will only apply if the cars are moved into the rental or service fleets for thirty days or thirty thousand miles. There are chances of making higher savings regarding taxes with brand new cars as compared to used cars. This has led to consumers invest in a new car instead for tax savings. Ferrara currently has only one Pontiac G6 coupe left on his lot. The remaining model will also sell in a short period of time. Buicks and GMC cars have also now picked up on the sales. Owner of Reichard Buick Pontiac GMC in Dayton, Gene Reichard claims that this fire sale has generated a lot of interest since it is a good offer. In two months, Reichard has sold 130 cars of Pontiac make. Buyers are not availing $6500 factory rebate, but also an additional $7000 rebate as well.

GM offer higher incentives to dealers to boost sales !

In order to hike up the sales, General Motors Company is offering higher incentives to its dealers. According to Wall Street Journal, General Motors is trying to dump the leftover stock from Pontiac and Saturn manufacturers in the market in order to increase the December sales of the particular car manufacturing brands. Wall Street Journal has also states that, General Motors has sent letter to its dealers stating that they are ready to pay $7000, every time a car manufactured by Saturn or Pontiac’s possession is transferred from their stock to that of rental-vehicle or service vehicle. These cars would be sold on second hand basis since these dealers are considered as owners of the car, hence the discounts availed on these cars will be high. This offer is going to last until the 4th of January since it is the last day for the General Motor Company to hike up their December car sales. General Motors will be booking the sales as fleet deliveries General Motors is planning to quit on Pontiac and Saturn and focus its attention on Hummers instead. General Motors’s contract to sell Saturn’s cars had collapsed in September, since then it has also pulled out of the contract to sell Opel by its European Unit. Currently its consignment of Hummers to a Chinese firm has been deferred and their deal with Saab cars is on a closure. This information has been provided by Reuters, but they were unable to get a comment from General Motors since it was past the US business hours.
