2011 Chevrolet Impala Review

The Impala is a roomy, front-wheel-drive 4-door sedan that comes in LS, LT and LTZ models. LS and LT trims include a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 211 horsepower and is now FlexFuel-capable. LTZ models (optional on LT) get a 224-horse, 3.9-liter V6 that’s also FlexFuel-capable. Either of these engines is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 3.5-liter engine has an EPA-estimated 18 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, which according to Chevrolet, allows a highway driving range of up to 500 miles.
With a rather conventional MacPherson strut-type front suspension and trailing-arm rear suspension, with a stabilizer bar in back, the Impala is tuned to bring a smooth ride yet handle reasonably responsively. The body and suspension systems were designed to include some significant sound-deadening measures, which make the Impala quiet on the highway and over coarse surfaces.
Depending on the trim level, the Impala comes with either a front bench seat or two individual buckets. In back, there’s enough room for three adults across, and the seatbacks fold forward for a full pass-through to the trunk for larger cargo items. There’s a storage tub under the rear cushions. And a sunroof is available. Side and side-curtain airbags are standard on all Impalas, along with GM’s StabiliTrak stability control system and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. There are LATCH child-seat connectors in all three rear seating positions. Even the base LS model includes keyless entry, cruise control, power windows and locks and air conditioning.
LT models get larger machined aluminum wheels, fog lamps, a remote start system, dual-zone climate control and Bluetooth hands-free. At the top of the range, the LTZ comes equipped as a more sophisticated, somewhat sporty sedan, with upgraded wheels and W-rated tires, heated seats, heated mirrors, a universal remote, and Bose audio. All sound systems include an auxiliary input. The available remote-start system in the Impala is claimed to work up to 200 feet away, and will pre-heat or cool the vehicle. Also included in the Impala is the latest Gen 9.0 version of OnStar, with improved voice recognition, along with Direction and Connections services and Turn-by-Turn navigation, which allows you to beam route guidance from a call center into the vehicle.

2010 Chevrolet Impala Review

The Impala is a large, front-wheel drive sedan that comes in three different models ranging from simple to sporty. The base Impala LS comes with a 211-horsepower, 3.5-liter pushrod V6 engine, as does the mid-level LT. Standard on the top-of-the-line LTZ is a 230-horsepower, 3.9-liter V6. With either of the engines, a responsive 4-speed automatic is the only transmission offered, and both V6s provide perfectly adequate performance for keeping up with traffic, even when fully loaded. Additionally, both engines come with flex-fuel capability to accommodate up to 85% ethanol.

LS and LT models come with suspension settings that favor ride quality but provide good handling control, with rack-and-pinion steering, front MacPherson struts, and stabilizer bars front and back, with 16- or 17-inch wheels and tires. On these models, the ride is especially quiet and well isolated. The LTZ adds larger stabilizer bars, a sportier suspension tuning and W-rated 18-inch performance tires.

The Stabilitrak stability control system is standard on all Impalas, as are six airbags, including side thorax airbags for front-seat occupants and full-length side-curtain airbags. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are also included on all Impala models, and OnStar is included as standard on all Impalas for the first year.

2010 Chevy Impala Interior View

The Impala’s interior makes the most of available space, with plenty of legroom for front and rear occupants and enough space in back for two adults of nearly any size to be comfortable, but there is room for three. LATCH child-seat tethers are included in all three rear seating positions. Available on LT and standard on LTZ models is a flip-and-fold-flat rear seat, which allows a continuous loading space through the trunk. The Impala is also one of the few remaining cars in its class to offer an available front bench seat, to accommodate three across and six people total.

Base LS models come with most of the conveniences buyers expect, including power windows, keyless entry, cruise control and air conditioning, plus dual-zone manual climate control and a 6-speaker CD sound system with XM Satellite Radio. LT models get a number of appearance enhancements, plus a remote start system, cast aluminum wheels and foglamps. LTZ models are the most luxurious and bring a long list of extras like heated seats, a universal garage door opener, Bluetooth hands-free calling, steering-wheel audio controls and a Bose 8-speaker sound system. Nuance leather upholstery with French seams is also included. All sound systems feature an auxiliary input jack for other sources such as iPods.

GM Slashes North American Truck Production

General Motors has just announced that they will be cutting full size truck production in North America by 138,000 units by the end of the year. This includes taking out 88,000 full size pick-up units and 50,000 full size SUV units. They will be eliminating three full size truck assembly plants in Pontiac, Michigan; flint, Michigan; and Oshawa, Ontario. They will also be eliminating one full size SUV assembly plant in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Shift reductions will be effective on the following dates:
• Flint Assembly (Heavy Duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra) — July 14
•Janesville (Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL) — July 14
• Pontiac Assembly (Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra) — July 14
• Oshawa Truck (Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra) — Sept. 8
The decision was made to bring production more in line with market demand. Since the market has been shifting more towards cars and crossovers, GM is seeing strong sales of the new Chevrolet Malibu, Cadillac CTS, Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G6, Chevrolet Impala, Buick Enclave, and GMC Arcadia.
“With rising fuel prices, a softening economy, and a downward trend on current and future market demand for full-size trucks, a significant adjustment was needed to align our production with market realities,” said Troy Clarke, president of GM North America.
Clarke also added that the company is continuing to explore options to increase car and crossover production.

Chevrolet is Making Earth Day Everyday

Chevrolet is leading the way in making Earth Day everyday, and you can help by driving one of Chevy’s seven models with an EPA estimated 30MPG highway or better. The Aveo sedan, Aveo5, Cobalt, Malibu Hybrid, and select models of HHR and Panel HHR fall into the 30MPG or better club. However, you may not be looking for a car, but a truck or an SUV, well we can help you there too. With our Chevy Silverado offering the best V8 fuel economy of any full size pickup and the full size Tahoe SUV (aka the Green Car of The Year) which delivers best-in-class fuel economy. New technology like Chevy’s Active Furl Management has played a role in achieving greater fuel economy. Active Fuel Management deactivates half the engine cylinders when they are not needed and reactivates them when you need the extra power. And yet there is still more! Every 2008 Chevy is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitor that will automatically alert you when your tire pressure is low. Did you know that properly inflated tired can improve gas mileage by up to 3%! This may seem like such a small amount but if everyone in the U.S. has properly inflated tires, we could save millions of gallons of gas each year.

For the last eight years, Chevy has been producing vehicles capable of running on a fuel that grows primarily from the earth. This fuel is E85 ethanol. Chevy has over 2 million E85 FlexFuel vehicles on the road today. Chevy also offers for E85 ethanol-capable vehicle choices then any other brand.

America’s first full-size hybrid SUV, the Chevy Tahoe, is available in two or four wheel drive and provides the power you would expect from a SUV while delivering efficiency you never thought of. The Chevy Tahoe is designed to operate in three ways: electric power, engine power, or any combination of the two. And here’s the best part: when you pair the two mode technology with our Active Fuel Management system, the Tahoe Hybrid gets up to 50% better city fuel economy then the non-hybrid Tahoe.

The Concept Chevy Volt will be different from any previous electric vehicle because of it till use a lithium-ion battery with a variety of range-extending onboard power sources, including gas, and in some, E85 ethanol to recharge the battery while driving. When it comes to plugging in, the Volt will be designed to use a 110-volt household plug. If you drive less then forty miles a day the Volt will use no gasoline and produce no emissions. For longer trips, the Volts range-extending power source kicks in to recharge the lithium-ion battery. Chevrolet expects an estimated driving range of 640 miles.

Chevrolet has launched a test fleet of the hydrogen-powered fuel cell Equinox SUVs. You can expect to see these vehicles on the streets of New York City, Washington, D.C., and Southern California. With Project Driveway underway many ask why test these vehicles with real drivers in the real world. The answer to that is because hydrogen fuel cells use no gasoline and produce no emissions. The Equinox Fuel cell is an electric vehicle powered by GM fourth-generation fuel cell system, the most advanced fuel cell propulsion system to date. The Equinox Fuel cell will go nearly 150 miles per fill-up and reach a top speed of 100 mph. Green Car Journal has given the Chevy Equinox Fuel cell its Green Car Vision Award. The Equinox Fuel Cell won the award over several nominees including the Honda FCX Clarity and Toyota Prius Plug-In.
