2012 Silverado 1500 Review from Bob Maguire Chevrolet
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 full-size pickup receives few notable changes for 2012. Several small styling tweaks have been made, including a new split grille and a new aerodynamic front bumper for LS and LT models without tow hooks. Two new trim packages are available: White Diamonds and Custom Sport Truck. New 20-inch chrome wheels are also available.
Value
Full-size trucks are used in such a wide range of situations–from construction fleets to long-distance driving–and the two different interiors offered in the Silverado and the nearly identical GMC Sierra help satisfy shoppers better than most other competing models. LS and LT models are probably the best fit for buyers who need the sturdy, get-messy capability of a pickup at least some of the time, but the LTZ is the choice for those who need a pickup that doesn’t compromise luxury. And for those who need a pickup but want to make a greener choice, with even lower operating costs, the Silverado Hybrid has 25% better fuel economy without sacrificing much towing or hauling ability.
Overview
Chevrolet continues to offer two completely different interiors for its Silverado 1500 family of pickups: Work Truck, LS and LT trims get a so-called “pure pickup interior” that includes larger door handles and controls that are designed to be used with gloves on, while the LTZ trim gets a luxurious, softer and car-like interior. The LTZ instrument panel is a bit lower to afford a better outward view, and several special color and trim themes are offered with the LTZ exclusively. LTZ models boast many more exclusive features in addition to the instrument panel; different door panels, a divided center console, heated power leather front seats and an upgraded Bose sound system are included, while the top crew cab LTZ models get a rear-seat audio system, larger glovebox and rain-sensing wipers. In most Silverado 1500 models, a stadium-style back seat is split 60/40, including a folding center armrest and can be folded forward easily. The extended-cab versions have enough legroom for occasional use and access is aided by 170-degree back doors.
Regular cab, crew cab and extended cab versions of the Silverado are available, while cargo bed lengths are 5′ 8″ for the short bed, 6′ 6″ for the standard bed, or 8 feet for the long bed. The maximum payload rating runs as high as 1,909 pounds. Across most of the model line, the Silverado has a very good ride and handles well compared to the full-size trucks of the past, with a well-tuned coil-over-shock front suspension, Hotchkiss-type rear suspension and rack-and-pinion steering. Actually, five different suspension packages are offered, each tuned for particular types of use: Z83 is for a smooth ride; Z85 is oriented for better handling and trailer towing; Z71 yields better off-road capability; Z60 is for top street performance; and NHT is for top towing capacity. Towing numbers range up to 10,700 pounds when configured with the extended cab, 6.0L engine and Enhanced Trailering Package. The 2012 Silverado offers four different engines–a 195-horsepower, 4.3L V6, a 302-hp, 4.8L V8, a 315-hp, 5.3L V8 and a 403-hp, 6.2L V8. The V6 comes with a 4-speed automatic, while all others get a 6-speed automatic. Fuel economy ratings are as high was 22 mpg on the highway. The Silverado Hybrid is a good option for green shoppers who still need pickup capability. The 2-mode hybrid system incorporates a 6.0L gasoline V8, electric motor system, variable automatic transmission and nickel-metal hydride battery pack, all of which enable a 6,100-pound tow rating while allowing especially good fuel economy in city driving, with EPA ratings of 21 mpg city, 22 highway.
Top options on the Silverado include Bluetooth phone connectivity, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system and a navigation system with XM Nav Traffic, plus a rearview camera system that aids visibility while parking this tall vehicle. A new Custom Sport Truck package features the 5.3L engine, heavy-duty trailering, 20-inch wheels, special body moldings with chrome accents, and more. The White Diamond Edition, available on LT and LTZ models, features White Diamond Tricoat paint, chrome mirrors and door handles, and the Z60 suspension system when combined with the LTZ trim
The Cruze at Bob Maguire Chevrolet
Chevy Cruze is one of the hottest selling compact cars of the year. For the unabridged version of why Cruze is getting so much attention from consumers and trade professionals alike.
Chevy Cruze is quickly rewriting the story of what a compact car should be. It’s turning expectations into great expectations. How? The theme of this success story is one word: more. It gives you more of everything you need and deserve from efficiency to safety, features to styling.
Cruze offers more cargo space*, more safety with best-in-class 10 standard air bags, and more miles per gallon in the Cruze Eco. At 42 MPG**, it’s the best highway mileage of any gas engine in America.
The plot continues with awards and recognition. Cruze is an IIHS 2011 “Top Safety Pick” and received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.1 Cruze was named a “Best Value in America” by Vincentric, a privately held automotive data compilation and analysis firm. Cruze was also one of Ward’s “10 Best Interiors of 2011”.
The ending to this story is anything but predictable. Cruze is a driving experience you won’t expect from a compact. It has race proven Z-link rear suspension that can out corner a 2011 BMW328i. It has a sleek, luxurious look. Delivers an upscale performance. And the Cruze LTZ model is priced quite reasonably.2 The 2011 Chevy Cruze. Not bad for a first edition.

The 2011 Chevy Malibu at Bob Maguire Chevrolet REVIEW:
Chevrolet’s 2011 Malibu has established itself as stylish, comfortable, safe and reliable transportation for a family concerned about low initial cost and low running costs. With plenty of standard convenience and safety features, crisp handling and an array of powertrain options from fuel-sipping to pedal-mashing, the Malibu puts plenty of excitement into the Chevrolet lineup.
Overview
The 2011 Chevrolet Malibu comes in three different trim levels–LS, LT and LTZ. A 169-hp, 2.4L 4-cylinder engine is standard for all models. It is Flex Fuel-capable, and can run on an E85 ethanol/gasoline blend. A 252-hp, 3.6L V6 with variable valve timing is optional on the LT and LTZ trims. A 6-speed automatic is now standard on all trims. With the 4-cylinder engine, the Malibu achieves respectable fuel-efficiency ratings of 22 mpg city, 33 mpg highway. Inside and out, the Malibu’s lines are modern and attractive, with great attention to detail. The flowing instrument panel forms a “dual cockpit” design. LTZ models get front fog lamps and attention-getting LED rear lamps. With its 4-wheel independent suspension and either 17- or 18-inch wheels, the Malibu offers a smooth ride and sporty handling response, due to a standard rear stabilizer bar. Four-cylinder models have electric variable-assist power steering, while V6 models have hydraulic power steering. Interiors in LS and LT Malibus are cloth, while the LTZ offers standard leather seating. Gauges are displayed with distinctive blue backlighting. Available ambient lighting backlights the center console and door pulls, and the overhead console in LTZ models bathes the center console area with LED light.
All Malibu models, including the base LS, come quite well equipped, with cruise control, remote keyless entry, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel and an MP3-compatible CD audio system. Top LTZ models include heated front seats, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, a 6-CD stereo and a remote starter system. XM satellite radio is available on all Malibus. A power sunroof is optional across the range and the upgraded stereo is optional on LS and LT models. Front passenger airbags, head-curtain side airbags covering front and rear outboard seats, and seat-mounted thorax-protecting air bags are standard for all models. Additionally StabiliTrak electronic stability control is standard across the Malibu range, and it incorporates brake assist and traction control. GM’s OnStar system is standard on all Malibu models.
General Motors Co. to payback the US and Canadian Governments Loans.
US auto giant General Motors has officially announced the repayment of its $5.8 Billion loan by the end of June ‘10. The loan is from the U.S Treasury and Export Development Canada, both of which currently hold Equity Shares in the company.
The company that emerged from bankruptcy in July 2009 also stated that once the repayments are complete “the focus will be to upgrade the plants in Detroit and Kansas to build their Next Generation- Chevrolet Malibu.”
The news of the repayment was made on the Wall Street Journal website on Tuesday April 20th by the CEO of GM, Ed Whitacre, as he announced “Our ability to pay back these loans less than a year after emerging from bankruptcy is a sign that our plan for building a new GM is working.”
The Detroit- Hamtramck and Kansan City factories will be updated with an investment of $ 275 million. The update will enable the plants to manufacture the Next Generation Malibu slated for release next year. On Wednesday, Mr.Whitacre addressing the Kansas City plant said that it will receive $136 million of the investment as the plant will be the prime manufacturing site for the Malibu.
As per the Automotive News Data Center, the new Chevy Malibu has a 53 day supply and Buick LaCrosse a 43 day supply, and the Kansas plant is working 3 shifts and on Saturdays to build both the cars which began production in April to maintain a 60 Day supply level as recommended by analysts.
The Buick Lucerne and Cadillac DTS sedans currently being produced at the Detroit Hamtramck plant will be downsized this year to accommodate the production of the Chevrolet Volt plug-in sedan, to be released in the fourth quarter of ’10. The Hamtramck plant investment of $121 will assist in the production of the Malibu in period of spike in demand.
